Biography
Jack McDevitt is a former naval officer. He has pursued numerous careers including taxi driver, customs officer and motivational trainer until returning to writing in the 1980's. He published his first story 'The Emerson Effect' in 1981. His first novel followed a few years later.
Much of his fiction focuses on first contact situations. His universe is populated with intelligent life which is haunted by the ever-present destructive forces of nature.
Jack McDevitt won the Hugo and Nebula award in 2007 for his novel The Seeker, the Campbell award for Omega and has received numerous nominations in both the Hugo and Nebula category.
