Biography
James Braziel is a Professor at the University of Alabama--Birmingham. He is originally from South Georgia. The people, the land, the politics, and the weather of the South inspire his writing. He is the author of two novels -- Birmingham, 35 Miles and Snakeskin Road -- and a chapbook of poetry, Weathervane. His fiction, essays, and poetry have appeared in The New York Times, Southern Humanities Review, Berkeley Fiction Review, Chattahoochee Review, and Hayden's Ferry Review, among other journals and newspapers. He has also been the recipient of an Individual Artist Grant from the Georgia Council for the Arts and twice nominated for the Pushcart Prize.
James was inspired by his major professor, Tony Grooms at the University of Georgia, to pursue creative writing. Likewise, James wants to inspire his students to write. His favorite part of teaching is working with students on their stories from rough draft to final draft.
