Biography
Philippa Catherine "Pip" Maddern was an Australian historian and academic, who was the Director of the Australian Research Council's Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions; born in Albury, New South Wales, spending her childhood in Morwell in Gippsland; double degrees at the University of Melbourne in history and Indonesian studies (1983); graduated from the University of Oxford with a DPhD (1985) which was later published - Violence and Soceal Order: East Anglia; tutor in history at Monash University (1986-1987); was professor of medieval history at the University of Western Australia; writer of science fiction - focused on the role of women, from a historically oriented Feminist position; well known for her musical expertise.
