Admin Posts: 4005 Location: Dallas, Texas | quote from El Milenio. guadalajara newspaper The Tricolor mastery of the ball was not worth anything. Hugo’s debut was tainted by the lack of conviction of the Mexican team. Oswaldo was lying on the ground and Landon Donovan was already sprinting toward the sidelines with his arms in the air. The ball was about to cross the goal line and the hearts of more than 50 thousand Mexican fans in the stadium as well as millions on the other side of the border were frowning and shriveling up. And the hope, the thirst of revenge, was dying. The moment arrived when ball and net collided. It was 2-0. It came in the most humiliating manner - From the cleats of the most hated executioner of Mexican soccer. Again, the U.S. And even Hugo Sanchez could not save us. this is classic!

Admin Posts: 4005 Location: Dallas, Texas | so it appears the USA v. Mexico clash at Azteca is cancelled. WTF?! how can they do that this late? surely they already sold tickets for what would have been a classico? on the upside, they replaced that game with USA v. Brasil on the same day, 09/09/7, in foxburro. as a consolation, not too shabby. hell it could have been Guatamala! still feel a little cheated. i've been looking for an opportunity to face off in azteca stadium! - dave

Member Posts: 6 | The claim is for financial reasons, but I suspect that Hugo doesn't think his job is secure enough to withstand a defeat in Azteca.

Admin Posts: 4005 Location: Dallas, Texas | i think you're right. that would be the final nail in the coffin. for US at axteca there is nothing to loose and everything to gain. just the opposite for mexico. a win does nothing for them really but a loss would be a catastrophe. especially for hugo. reports are that brasil is bringing their A-team. how do you think we'll fare? - dave

Member Posts: 6 | If they don't bring Ronaldino, it's not their A-Team. Ronaldino and some others asked to be left off their Copa America squad. Hey, we've beaten them before.

Admin Posts: 4005 Location: Dallas, Texas | so, i think that was pretty much their A-Team. thought it was a pretty good game for USA despite the scoreline. i mean, come on! on own goal from gooch (no fault there just unlucky) and a totally crap non-call for Wolf in the box! not to mention a bogus foul call for ronaldinho that lead to a goal. good effort by the boys all in all. none of brasil's goals came in the run of play. that's pretty impressive right there. and the US had a nice goal from dempsey. - dave

Admin Posts: 4005 Location: Dallas, Texas | yes indeed! looking forward to that game. i sure wish it was a weekend game so i could make the drive down. US just topped South Africa 1-0. not a bad game. you can tell we were missing a few key players especially in attack. good result from the boys playing away. - dave

Admin Posts: 4005 Location: Dallas, Texas | so, Team USA and Mexico ended in a 2-2 draw in Houston. not a bad game over all. couple costly mistakes by one of our new guys really hurt us but you gotta hand it to mexico, they came out more hungry and aggressive than we did. i think there was more on the line for them having not won in the US in more than 10 attempts. the pro mexico crowd, probably 60,000+ of the 70,000 in attendance, (and i'm being generous to the US supporters here) certainly helped. i went to the last us v mex game in houston and there was not another us supporter in my entire section outside my family. there is no home-field advantage to be had in Texas for the US team. the crowd and the team seemed quite pleased to come away with a draw. they even stayed on the field and shook hands and traded jerseys with the us players afterwards. could that finally be a sign of respect for the US team? time will tell. it's a great rivalry and i'm actually ok with the draw cause mexico needed some result to keep the rivalry meaningful. anybody else catch the game? - dave
