Random quote: "America is a nation of liars, and for that reason science fiction has a special claim to be our national literature, as the art form best adapted to telling the lies we like to hear and to pretend we believe." -- Thomas Disch (The Dreams our Stuff is Made Of)

Announced today (Jan. 31st)

Ancillary Justice, Kameron Hurley and, yes, another Christopher Priest (they sure do love that guy).

A fairly surprising list, to me, bar Ancillary Justice and The Adjacent.

I hadn't realised God's War was eligible, or that Evening's Empires would have had a big enough constituency given that it's a late book in a sequence that hasn't had a big pull before. And I know nothing at all about Ack-Ack Macaque.

If God's War wins it'll no longer be eligible for the Second Best challenge.

Neither will Ancillary Justice. I'm putting off reading anything new until the awards are announced so I don't have to switch around.
