I've recently started reading all of the Dresden Files books, and I've got to say, I love them. Very tense through most of the book, it keeps you on the edge of your seat. Another thing about them is that though they may be more classified as fantasy, I don't think of them as such. I'm not normally a fan of fantasy at all, and yet because Jim Butcher takes such a scientific view of the magic in his books (magic is energies that can be controlled, but still must follow the Laws of Physics), I think of the Dresden Files as science fiction. Anyhoo, I recommend to any who haven't picked them up before to pick up Storm Front, and if you like that one, keep going. They're best when read in order, as much like the other famous series starring a Harry, one leads to another in a definite series of order.

And if you like that, check out the TV series, which we've discussed in these forums before, and which were also very good.
