Random quote: "America is a nation of liars, and for that reason science fiction has a special claim to be our national literature, as the art form best adapted to telling the lies we like to hear and to pretend we believe." -- Thomas Disch (The Dreams our Stuff is Made Of) - (Added by: gallyangel) |

Uber User Posts: 526 Location: UK | The news report I read said "Karen Joy Fowler, best known for The Jane Austen Book Club." Not by me. Sarah Canary, probably.

Extreme Veteran Posts: 556 Location: Great Lakes, USA | The Bone Clocks was already on my TBR list. I loved Cloud Atlas. I have read The Sea and The Sense of an Ending, both of which have won the Booker Prize. I didn't like either. I didn't like We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves for the same reasons that I didn't like those two. I am leery of reading more Booker Prize winners.

Uber User Posts: 794 | I must admit I loved The Sea. I thought Banville's prose masterful and I liked the humour of Barnes' The Sense of an Ending. Generally I prefer the Bookers over, say, the Pulitzers, which are often too worthy for my taste. My favorite recent Bookers are Hilary Mantel's double win for Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies, simply the best historic novels I have ever read.
