For sheer ingenuity, The Sky is Yours is a 5 Star book. The world building is phenomenal. The author created a very original place and depicted it brilliantly. The book is a crazy mash-up of science fiction, fantasy, and some other genre that I guess the author made up because it is unlike anything else I've ever read. The execution was interesting, including footnotes, a screenplay, letters, diary entries, and charts.
In terms of how much I liked the book, however, it was a 3 Star read. I didn't much care for the plot, which centered primarily on a love story of sorts, and the graphicness (sex, language, violence) was quite off-putting. Also, it seemed at times the author was trying just a little too hard so that the book seemed to be more about showcasing her cleverness rather than the story itself.
Even though my enjoyment was tempered, The Sky is Yours is a brilliant display of creativity and skill, and I will be surprised if it doesn't garner some award nominations.
