Ellen Datlow is one of the few editors whose books I will eagerly buy. She has a gift for selecting top-notch stories that stay with you, particularly in the realm of horror. This volume is no exception.

My favorites in this book include:

-"Lowland Sea", basically a modern-day Masque of the Red Death set at the Cannes Film Festival. Wonderful and chilling, with the best ending in the book.

-"each thing i show you is a piece of my death", about a viral image of a naked man with a knack for appearing in unexpected places. The story is told in epistolary fashion, with a 21st century twist (emails, transcripts, police interviews) and the creepiness sneaks up on you and won't let go.

-"What Happens When You Wake Up in the Night". A child's fears about the dark take on a new meaning. We all had those fears once, but what if there was a reason to be afraid?

There are no duds in this book. All are readable and worthy of your attention. The short-story format makes it great for lunch breaks or bedtime stories. Treat yourself to some scares.
