I read this recently for my book group. We all got to pick a "classic" that none of us had read. I think we were all surprised by how underwhelming this book is when you've read and or heard so much about this story in popular culture. You can't escape hearing some kind of reference to this book and the story of it in our modern culture. I feel like the fact that people will go into this book with so many expectations does it a disservice. It is a good book and it is well written but it's actually quite mild and tame if you've heard anything about it and are expecting a lot of things.
Unfortunatly, I really don't think this story aged well because of how popular culture has turned it into a lot of things it is not and expecations people might have it when they come to the story will dilute their enjoyment of it.
It's short and if you just take it as itself without putting any expectations on it I think it can be enjoyable.
