I really, really recommend reading the Nebula-nominated prequel story Sunday Night Yams at Minnie and Earl's before reading this one, because that context makes it even better. I think that the prequel is a better story than this one, which seems a bit heavy-handed and takes quite a while to really get to the payoff, but I enjoyed both of them.
