I'm a huge fan of the author's Hail Bristol series, but I have to admit that I did not enjoy this one nearly as well. The vast majority of this novel involves Olympic-style competitions between the teams (divisions) of a military corps, the Near Earth Orbital Guard (NeoG). I think that people who have spent years learning martial arts, fencing, boxing, or other sorts of combat sports might really enjoy this, but I just found it tedious. There are a lot of detailed descriptions of fighting matches, but even though there are character interactions and a developing mystery to be solved, I came away feeling that there was little real plot or character development.
