This is a delightful short, my first read of a Mildred Clingerman story. I will be reading more of her, for sure.
This whimsical tale, filled with humor and charm, revolves around the neighborhood's potential witch and the hilariously half-baked exorcism that ensues, leading to amusing and unexpected outcomes.
I could not find an appropriate genre for this. Suburban homespun humorous witchy fantasy is where it belongs. Nothing else comes close.
Clingerman was a self-proclaimed homemaker when she started her writing career in the early to mid-nineteen fifties. Anyone born after nineteen fifty-five may not get or find this offensive. Those born before that and who lived in a neighborhood probably lived it.
