A Key, an Egg, an Unfortunate Remark

This book is the success mode of clever. Wry, humorous, occasionally snarky, and always interesting, the main mystery unspools with several others as the reader gradually gets clues to a lot of backstory. I'm not a huge fan of urban fantasy, and wouldn't want a steady diet of books like this -- but this book is a sheer pleasure to read.
