A story in the same mold as Brave New World, but this time focusing on the effects of rigid caste labor identity and prisons.
Society is built around predetermined roles and jobs, each person born into the role they will fill. When they deviate from this role, or otherwise strain the fabric of the society, they are sent to prison.
This story examines what happens when the prisones decide they can break out of their roles in the prison, instead of staying within their caste/gang/group, and what kind of struggle will ensue.
A decent examinatino of prison society even as we know it today, if a little simplified for the sake of the story's framework.
