Batman: The Dark Knight Returns

I was inspired to read this as context for another book I am reading, The Caped Crusader: Batman and the Rise of Nerd Culture. This story is a product of its times (and more political than I remember) but changed the way a generation saw Batman. Frank Miller himself said "Batman works best in a society that's gone to hell. That's the only way he's ever worked."
