The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet

This is like an animated family sitcom on a space ship, in a good way. A crew of assorted likable and quirky characters from a diverse array of alien cultures and walks of life travel the galaxy together on their hodgepodge spaceship. Adventure and drama ensue! The many convenient plot-driven coincidences and predictable events can be easily forgiven, if not completely overlooked, because Becky Chambers' awesome characters and the interactions between them are so amusing and heart-warming. Amazingly, she manages to balance everything with minimal cheesiness. It's hard to imagine anyone not enjoying this book.
