This is a classic, over the top space opera built on the foundations of the first work, expanded and in more detail.
However, this entry in the Skylark series seems quite prolix. There are countless detailed explications of scientific advancements and constructions, which don't do much to advance the story. They do give the reader an in depth understanding of the science fiction underpinnings of the story arc and development, but at the cost of lengtening the work and interrupting the pace to the detriment of the story.
It is fairly dated now, mostly due to the specific details called out that reference technolgies already obsolete or abandoned even in the 20th century. The two married couples are idealized, cliché cutouts that serve little purpose but to give the heroes some more familiar behaviors to the reading audience at the time.
If you're a fan of space opera, you'll likely find this to be a pleasnat read. If not, you'll want to pass.
