The Silmarillion is weird. It's a book that basically has no central plot, just being one big backstory, an attempt at writing a backstory for all of one of the most detailed worlds ever created. But more than that, it's a glimpse into the unparalleled imagination of J.R.R. Tolkien. It has the same style of writing as the Lord of the Rings, so rich and dedicated to detail that it feels immensely slow, so filled with characters and details that the appendix feels necessary to keep track of things. It was a slow book to read, and I absolutely loved every page.
