No, that's not a joke, that's the author's own words to describe this derivitave work based on Ellison's classic "A Boy and His Dog". Add the song "Puff the Magic Dragon", replace dragon with unicorn, and you have the entire concept of this disappointing flop.

Almost everything about this story is poorly done, even the pacing and editing, and this is after the revisions for the 2009 re-release.

I won't waste your time describing the story. I'll just say it's better you don't waste your time and treasure reading stories by authors that do not respect their audiencies.

How do I know this? Let me quote the author (not the story, the author's own words), where he flips a middle finger at everyone who spent time and treasure on this story:

"The origin of the Change as milieu is pretty simple: as a long time martial artist, I really hated guns. I wanted to make them all didn't happen no more, so I did. Firearms don't work because I said so. Again I say to you: nonny nonny pooh pooh." [sic]

If you as an author believe it is your right, and in your best interest, to openly mock the people who pay your bills, and to do so with such blatant disrepect and infantile insults, you need to go back to working in an office where no one has to listen to you any more.

I will not be reading any more of Boyett's works.
