The Big Time takes place, in The Place. A sort of rest stop for wearly soldiers fighting a war through space and time called The Big Time. The lead character, Greta, is an "entertainer" at the The Place. The book is Greta's telling of what happen during one particular incident at The Place and it has the feel of a one scene, multi act play. There's a bit of a "who done it" and a nice resolution at the end. It's satisfying in that respect.
This was the first book I read by Leiber. Although I didn't particularly love this book I was impressed with the story. It was cleaver and original...It just wasn't for me. I reccomend it, I just didn't like it myself. Seems weird, I know. How do you reccomend a book you didn't particularly like? It's a well written story and interesting, it's just not my style...but it's worth checking out. Maybe I'm just in a bad mood. Maybe I'll read it again...I don't know....
