Redshirts: Novel with Three Codas

This book is light and fluffy. It is filled with Scalzi's trademark bantering dialogue and humor, but is a pretty weak effort. The codas at the end seem to be a last minute attempt to add some weight to the book. I didn't read Scalzi's last book because it was a reboot of Little Fuzzy. After reading this book, I'm being too suspect that the author is running a little short in the creativity department. I got the feeling while reading Redshirts that he is just coasting along. Until I've heard that he has dug deep and produced a really good book I'm going to concentrate my reading on less celebrated authors who have really brought it. If you are a die hard Scalzi fan you will like this book. If you have never read him before, skip this book and start with Old Man's War.
