My latest WOGF entry is Hope Mirlees's Lud-in-the-Mist.
The book is written in a wonderfully Dickensian style. The narrator inserts little aphorisms on the law, delusion, and city vs. country life at every oportunity. The plot was well done and the conclusion unexpected. The moral is quite deep, and kept me thinking about it for quite a long time, which is just about everything I wan't from a moral.
Highly recommended for early fantasy fans.
