Not as much of a zombie book as you think

When I decided to read this year's (2013) Hugo nominee's I knew that I'd have to start at the beginning of this series and I was skeptical. I don't like zombies, they give me nightmares. Furthermore, I had it in my head that this was some sort of "pop" book, something written around a trend and bound to be fun but without substance.

I was wrong.

This wasn't a perfect book (the author has some tics and the villain is the mustache twirling kind), but it was surprisingly good and engaging.

Georgia and Sean are sibling bloggers who are invited to tag along on a presidential campaign. When things start to go wrong (zombies!) they are in the perfect position to get to the heart of it.

The beauty comes in the voices (I mean that in a narrative sense as well as the narration of the audiobook). Mira Grant captures the voice of Georgia and Sean very well. They are adults but they haven't lost the continuity of being teenagers. They have grown up but haven't become different people.

I eagerly pick up the sequel though I am skeptical in a different way than when I started.
