A Wizard of Earthsea

This book begins the story of Sparrowhawk and his education as a wizard. I hated his character at first because of his arrogance, but after a tragic occurance, he is humbled and spends years atoning for his mistake. I felt somewhat remote from the characters, but the world-descriptions were excellent.
