My spouse and I needed a book on disk to listen to for a road trip. She reads romances, almost exclusively. I like science fiction, and other things -just about anything but romances. Usually I listen to a book with my earbuds as I drive and she reads her Kindle. So I needed to find something for both of us. Bestsellers can't be had from the library - there's always a waiting list. I stumbled across the favorable review of Seraphina on the WWE blog. It gets a pretty good rating over at Goodreads, too. And, guess what - the library had it on CD. YA fantasy, certainly not my usual read, but it could be good, right?
So we listened to Seraphina, a 13 hour recording on a trip of 8 to 9 hours each way. On the case it said it was intended for listeners age 12 to 17. I can't imagine that it would hold the attention of anybody that age. For a story with dragons, it didn't have much action. This is a slow moving story. On the return trip, it finally started picking up but by that time my spouse had gone back to reading her Kindle.
