I have been reading some great books lately and this one is no exception. Vivid descriptions, complex characters, and stridently brutal situations abound as Butler drops a modern black woman into the old south where her fate is inextricably entwined with that of a white slave-holder's son. In a world of black and white, Butler finds myriad shades of grey. Kindred, is a thrilling and unflinching look at one of the more shameful aspects of US history.
Highly recommended.
