I have to admit that at some points I felt that I was slogging through this.
My first problem was that it was hard to like any of the characters in the first two parts of the book: Farfhd, Vlana, the silly girl whose name escapes me... Mouse was probably the most sympathetic of the lot. My second problem was that the women were absolutely awful: they were shrews, or malicious, or cowardly, or possibly insane. There was not ONE strong, competent or even likable woman in the book.
However, I enjoyed the adventures in the last part of the book, and assuming the ongoing adventures of Fafhrd and Mouse together form the basis of the rest of the series, I am willing to read some more.
