Annihilation tells the story of an expedition into Area X, a coastal region where something mysterious has happened, and things aren't what they seem.
And, basically, that's the whole book. It put me in mind of the expeditions into the Zone, in Roadside Picnic, which I read earlier this year, in its general inexplicability.
You don't get many answers in Annihilation. I don't know if there are any in the other two books in the trilogy, and I'm not all that convinced there should be any. It's hard, right now, to see what the other two books can even be about, but I guess I'll found out when I get round to reading them. I did like this one enough that I bought both.
Enjoyably weird. (3.5/5)
