I really enjoyed this. It's been a bit too long since I read Absolution Gap, and I had managed to put this one off for over two years, but I finally knuckled down and read it and I'm glad I did.
It's set in the Revelation Space universe, before the main trilogy. I'm not quite sure how it fits in with Chasm City, the other stand-alone. It's too long since I read that. This one takes place in the Glitter Belt around Yellowstone and Chasm City. The lead characters are prefects - essentially cops - among the ten thousand diverse orbital habitats, investigating some strange goings-on that turn into a full-scale crisis.
The setting shows Reynolds' usual levels of wild invention, which is pretty much what I come here for. It maybe takes a bit too long to get into its stride, but it's a good, gripping police story.
I've given it 4.5/5. This is the Good Stuff.
