This classic work has an interesting story but gets bogged down by the Victorian writing. I'm sure it was a gripping read at the time of it's publishing but it is slow and lack a sense of urgency for the modern reader. That being said it is only 25,000 words so it is a work easily finished in an afternoon even if you take a nap in the middle. Overall I would only recommend this to those looking to survey the foundations of modern SF.
