Zombies and a psychotic AI attack, and teenagers save the day

There's a good story here -- but it's told mainly through text messaging between several teenage main characters, and thus embedded inside a great deal of inanity.

I am sure that this format will be appealing to a lot of teenagers, but I found that it got tedious really fast, and I debated several times just abandoning the book out of annoyance at the tedium. If the next book is done in the same format, I will probably not be willing to read it.
