I read this novel 4 1/2 decades ago when I was in high school, and rated it A+, BUT I would expect my reaction to be quite different now. I'm not sure if I could make it through Jubal Harshaw's lengthy diatribes. Lots of fantastic ideas and concepts, nevertheless.
I have estimated that a realistic rating for me would be about 3 1/2 stars, or B+.
I'm sure Heinlein's right-wing and libertarian views, his dismissive views of women's rights to equality, and his questionable views on race (to put it extremely mildly) would cause me considerable difficulty in attempting a re-read. IF you are okay with this novel - it may be reasonable for you to check out his later novels. Otherwise, stay with just Glory Road, Friday and Job - a comedy of Justice, and skip the rest.
