2025 Grimdark Reading Challenge
This challenge is a simple, yet bloody affair. Read books you consider Grimdark in 2025 (and ideally share your thoughts in a review).
Grimdark is a genre of speculative fiction characterised by dystopian, amoral or violent settings, but it is a little more than 'grim and perilous' or darkness. Rather it is a genre of complex emotions and behaviours, characterised by scenarios where good doesn't always win, and indeed often doesn't. It is where characters are faced with impossible decisions and often make the wrong ones. It is where worlds and rulers don't care if you live or die and just living is bitter and cruel. And yet, in so many of these stories the best of humanity can break through the mud, like a flower's shoots growing in a desolate wasteland.
