Paul Lewis, a talented young artist, is haunted by visions of a vampire.

Paul is commissioned to illustrate a manuscript of the gospels at San Benedetto monastery, where he meets Brother Victor. He falls hard for the bold and arrogant brother, unaware that Victor is the vampire of his visions, a ruthless killer and Jesus's former lover.

Victor initially resists his own attraction to Paul, but he is forced to make a choice when Paul witnesses Victor murder a monk: destroy Paul, or turn him into a thrall--a half-human, half-vampire creature completely dependent upon his creator. Unable to destroy him, Victor chooses the only other option.

Now it's Paul's turn to choose: remain Victor's thrall or become a full vampire, knowing to become a vampire will release Victor from the realm of the living forever. But Paul's visions are back, and they're urging him to turn against the vampire he loves. Can Victor crush this power and conquer Paul before it's too late?

There are only two rules that govern the lives of vampires. First, vampires are forbidden to associate with one another. And second, vampires must depart to the Dark Kingdom upon creating a new vampire.

Victor Decimus, once a Roman officer in the days of Jesus of Nazareth, has broken both of these rules. He and his former thrall Paul now live together as lovers, running an exclusive nightclub in Washington, D.C., that caters to those seeking to fulfill their darkest fantasies.

Their life together will be short-lived, however, if agents of the Dark Kingdom have their way--using methods that test both the power and love of the vampire transgressors.

After turning his human lover into a vampire in Washington, D.C., upsetting the Dark Kingdom's delicate balance and exponentially increasing his own powers, Victor fled to post-Katrina New Orleans in order to escape the Dark Kingdom's justice, leaving his lover behind. Mere geography, however, cannot protect Victor from the Dark Kingdom's agents, who are hellbent on resetting the balance and stopping Victor's plans to become a vampire maker -- at any cost.

Father Charles Boisvert believes he has overcome his homosexual desires -- that is, until troubled, young Kyle enters his confessional. Kyle is Victor's latest thrall, trapped to do Victor's bidding, desperate to escape yet loving his subservience. Charles is determined to save Kyle from Victor's control, even if it means giving in to temptation.

While Charles and Victor battle for Kyle's soul, the Dark Kingdom's agents draw ever closer. The very thing that will give Victor the power to defeat them -- transforming Kyle from thrall to vampire -- will simultaneously free Kyle from Victor's control, yet doom his soul forever.
