Location: Dallas, Texas | OK, so you have an idea for a challenge and you're ready to get stuck in but you don't know what to do about the challenge banner. Well, have no fear, we're here to help you with that. If you need a hand just drop us a note here with as many details as you have and someone will jump in to make you a banner to match your theme. I've personally done many of these myself and will gladly pitch in when and where I can but it doesn't have to be just me. There's a lot of talent in our membership and if you fancy lending your artistic skills to help a brotha' out you're more than welcome to throw your hat in the ring when someone comes looking for a hand. Please remember no one is under any obligation to use the banners that come out of any collaboration - I know I missed the mark with several attempts last year - sometimes the muse talks to you and sometimes not. No biggie. Try again or find someone else to help out. Maybe another member sees your vision better. It's supposed to be fun.
The end goal is to have a snazzy banner that expresses the theme of your challenge and will look good posted on blogs and websites to link back to your challenge. If you have a blog please do use the banners as you see fit - that's what they're there for. |

Hi, if someone wants to make a banner for the new Today's Random Reads challenge it would be great.
I haven't a clue how, and I'm not very picky.
I was thinking a pair of dice, but I'm open to just about anything.......Thanks to anyone that helps. |

Slot machine good idea too.
Instead of showing a win line of all cherries, bars, or whatever. Maybe a win line of the letters R N G? (Random Number Generator)
Or T R R? (Today's Random Reads) |

Took a little longer than I thought but here ya go. I searched for real religious symbols and augmented them with some crop circle patterns and other symbols to suggest alien religions etc. I snuck in an atheist symbol while I was at it. The background is the Eye of God Nebula which I thought was a bit of fun for those who might recognize it |

I recreated my two challenges for 2017. Dave, can you update my banners to 2017 when you have the chance? They're for the 2017 LGBTQ Spec Fic and the 2017 I Just Have to Read More of That Author challenges. I already created the challenges and they're set to start in January, so they don't appear on the website yet, but they should be in the database.
Thanks!
And Happy New Year!

How exactly is it put in there? Hi Link, I merged your thread with this one. To add your banner go to your reading challenge page and click the "Edit This Challenge" link. On the edit page you can add a link to your logo by pasting it into the "Custom Logo Link" field. This presupposes you have a place on the web to store your graphic. If you do not you can email your image to me (info at worldswithoutend dot com) and I will add it to your record. If you don't want to make your own banner then drop some ideas here in this thread and I, or someone else, can make one for you. Let me know if you have further questions.

Possible to fix? Thank you! With all the trouble we're having with our host service there is nothing I can do at the moment. Whatever I try to fix now will be blown away if the site goes down again which seems very likely. When things stabilize a bit I'll see what I can do to correct the RYO. Thanks for your patience. |

| Hello Cap! I was updating and remembered you had put together an excellent banner for the Apocalypse 2019 challenge I put out there. However, I think it all got wiped out in the March-April stability issues. Can that challenge be recreated now? Should I create it or is it one you can roll over? Appreciate your help, thanks! |

Hey Fin, I tried to roll it over from the last one but it just won't work for me. It appears I'm missing some table connection that won't get created unless it goes through the signup form. You'll have to start it up from scratch but you can back date it to your original start date if you want. I still have the banner so when you set it up I'll add back the banner image. |

I've resurrected the Spec Fic by People of Colour challenge because I missed it. I've updated the same banner that was used for the old challenge, but still can't figure out a way to add it to the challenge. So I've taken the route of one of the other ubers, and uploaded the banner to book covers on Media Fire. Hope you don't mind and that is okay.
Thanks |

| If you click on the picture of the old challenge and open it in a new tab you can copy the URL that shows in the search bar and paste it into the relevant field in the new challenge set up.
It would be nice to have an rollover feature in the challenge set up though. |

| Just created a new challenge to read books by SWFA Grand Masters, using the award list on the site. Could you please create a banner for this? I'd be happy with the one used for the award, but a newly created one would be great too. I look to make this an annual challenge as well.
Thanks!

Thanks for that tip. It wouldn't have worked in this instance because I had to edited the '2015' out of it, but it's still good to know for the future. |

| Just a reminder on the Grand Master challenge banner, when you get a moment. Also, someone created a ROTFL challenge that looks rather naked without a banner.
Also, could you resurrect either the Horror Tour from 2018 or The Weirdness from 2019? I don't see any horror challenges but I didn't want to create a new one from scratch, better to use one that people might be familiar with.
Thank you! |

Charles normally sets up the Weirdness challenge. That one is his baby. But he normally arrives a little later in January to set his challenges up. Give it a couple of weeks.
We haven't always had a Horror challenge, so you could try contacting the person who created the last one, and if they don't want to do it again, set it up yourself. |

I've created the 2023 LGBTQ and "I Just HAVE to Read More of that Author" challenges. Can you update and apply the banners for them?
Also I created a new challenge called Elizabeth III. It's kind of like the Killer B's challenge, but features the three prominent Elizabeths in genre fiction: Moon, Bear, and Hand. If you have any ideas for a banner for this, maybe featuring their photos, or pics of their last names, like a moon, a bear, and a hand, that would be awesome.
Thanks for your help and happy holidays! |

I don't roll over every one of my challenges every year. Normally I try to do something different every year (although I haven't come up with anything yet!). Feel free to post the Sub-Genre (or Time Travel) if you would like. Sub-Genre will probably have more takers as it has more scope. |

| Will do - yes, I'll stick with Sub-Genre as it is more flexible. Thanks for the notice and I look forward to whatever challenge you come up with! |

Location: Great Lakes, USA | Can you put the flaming jack-o'-lantern banner on this year's Halloween Challenge (hope I didn't put it in twice) and add one for the other challenge I put it for September? I think this one was done before, so there might be a banner already made. I don't remember what it looked like. Or you can make a new one if you like.
Thanks!

Location: Windsor, Ontario | Hi, I just initiated the David Drake Memorial Military SF Challenge. I re-read the second sentence wording and it's not clear enough can you correct it to read:
"Try to read at least one third from WWE's Baen Reader's List of Recommendations and/or from David Drake himself."
I'll leave it to you to find a kick ass image for the banner.
Thanks so much.

You might want to add something about Drake's status in the MilSF world to flesh out the memorial part of the challenge description.

Location: Windsor, Ontario | Thanks. You are right, I think it needs a bit more.
------
David Drake was an icon in the Military Science Fiction world. He wrote some of the most influential fiction in the genre. His work was honest, gritty, and it touched the lives of many readers and writers.
If you have never read any of his books, make it up to yourself and join this challenge.

Did you set it to the correct dates? I've done that before, and set it for 2024 dates when we were only going into 2023! Can you see it to access it and check? |

Location: Great Lakes, USA | Thanks for the Fantasy banner. I love it. Reminds me of King Arthur, a subject I like.
Can you put in banners for the new challenges I entered for September and October? Definitely the same one for the Halloween Challenge - love that banner. The others you can use previous banners or if you are feeling creative, make new ones. Whatever you prefer. Thanks!

In the interest of speed I repurposed our banned books list banner. I also added a few links to the description. |
