An excellent "coming of age" story, as the title suggests. I particularly enjoyed the first half of the novel, set on the generation starship itself. I found that the latter portion of the novel rather streched the "willing suspension of disbelief", and was more mundane. Nevertheless, this book is highly recommended!
There seems to be a general consensus that Rite of Passage was Panshin's one really really good novel. I would very much like to read some of his non-fiction work.
In my rating system, a C - gets one star, and I increase by a half-star with each step up to an A+, which gets 5 stars. One half star is reserved for bombs... D+ and lower.
